在校生向け日本語習得プログラムJapanese as a Second Language (JSL) Program
Background and Purpose
At our full-time school, we anticipate an increase in students who have grown up in multilingual environments or who have had limited exposure to the Japanese language. As a result, some students may face challenges in understanding academic content and adjusting to school life due to language barriers. To support their smooth integration, our JSL (Japanese as a Second Language) program is designed to help these students build a strong foundation in Japanese and participate in school life with confidence and ease.
Who is eligible?
Students enrolled in full-time school (K5-9th grade; K4 is not eligible for this program) who need Japanese language support.
Content of the support program
Depending on each student's Japanese language proficiency and understanding, we will propose participation in one or more of the following programs.
Program Name | substance | tuition |
---|---|---|
Japanese Conversation Class | Conversation-oriented classes held after school (twice a week) | 50% tuition discount |
Weekend School (Hoshuko) | Learning Japanese language and mathematics in Japanese | 50% tuition discount |
Private Tutor After School | One-on-one tutoring | $30~ for 1 hour |
Implementation policy
- To maintain consistency in academic learning, students will not be pulled out of regular classes for Japanese language instruction. Instead, support will be provided after school and on Saturdays to prevent delays in subject learning.
- The selection and implementation of support will be determined in consultation with parents. However, please note that both the Weekend School (Hoshuko) and Japanese conversation class have their own admission criteria, which must be met in order to enroll.
- The homeroom teacher will assess each student's specific support needs and communicate these clearly to the instructors of the Weekend School (Hoshuko), the Japanese conversation class, or the tutor.
Full-time School Admission Requirements
Students who are deemed to need Japanese language support may be required to take one of these programs as a condition for admission to the full-time program.
